The role of a documentary is to tell a story. It may bring to light a certain cause or injustice or it may simply act as an instruction, showing how something is made or achieved. The short film or documentary is an increasingly popular way of communicating to a large audience, often via social media, where a personal, educational or commercial story can be told. Now more than ever Graphic Designers need to have knowledge of documentary tropes combined with confident storyboarding skills and an ability to clearly communicate a concept via film that has been edited to provide an engaging experience for the intended viewer. This project is the opportunity to do just that.
4th year students were asked to produce a 60 second documentary that tells the story of a worker: a person engaged in a particular field, activity, or cause. This showreel presents a selection from the stories collected.
